The project focuses chronic musculoskeletal pain, aiming at identifying a non-pharmaceutical intervention that not only relieves symptoms, but restores the normal brain activity. The project uses EEG to identify alteration in brain activity most likely associated with maladaptive plasticity in chronic pain patients We have been developing a neurofeedback system for the treatment for chronic musculoskeletal pain. Chronic pain patients are trained to alter the brain wave characteristics believed to be associated to tennis elbow pain. This technology has been patented. We are investigating the effects of the use of this technology for the treatment of tennis elbow pain. Progresses in the pain sensation during the treatment are evaluated based on qualitative and electrophysiological measurements.
