Advancement of Hydrofaction technology platform

Project Details

Description

The project concerns development of Steeper Energy’s proprietary Hydrofaction™ platform for sustainable and efficient production of syncrude at high heating value from low value organic feedstock. The syncrude can be used directly in large marine Diesel engines, power plants or generators, or can be further refined to transportation fuels, potentially substituting vast amounts of fossil oil on a global scale. Syncrude produced from renewable input stream will result in a significant CO2 saving of approximately 80-90 % on an energy basis. The technology is a technical implementation of hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL), which utilizes the unique properties of water at near critical conditions to efficiently convert solid biomass or organic materials into a syncrude, or biocrude. The specific work packages in the project include engineering and construction of a bench scale processing unit, engineering and economical assessment of an industrial scale plant, and test of the produced syncrude in relevant end use technologies.
