Broadcast of Digital TV

Project Details

Description

With this project we aim at developing a new network coding scheme for joint compression and broadcast of digital TV signals. Specifically, we take advantage of the fact that different consumers have different bandwidths and encode the TV signal into several descriptions for simultaneously broadcast. Consumers with a low bandwidth will only receive subsets of these descriptions and the larger their bandwidths the more descriptions they receive. Any arbitrary subset of these descriptions can be independently decoded. Moreover, the quality of the decoded signal depends only upon the number of received descriptions and as such not on which descriptions are received.
