Currently, conducting educational innovations and improving educational quality have drawn increasing attention from many higher educational institutions worldwide who wish to produce more competent students and participate in a regional, national or even international competition. However, there is no uniform way of making such educational changes in higher education within their particular contexts, individually, organizationally, or even nationally. The research project is primarily concerned with how to make educational innovations in higher education institutions within a particular social and cultural context, with a special focus on the staff’s conceptions of the educational innovation, the design of staff development program, and the management of educational changes. To address these research concerns, we will investigate how higher education institutions introduce new pedagogical innovations and how they deal with their specific challenges in the Chinese context.
