Project Details

Description

Research collaboration with MIT and the New Engineering Education Transformation (NEET) program and the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AeroAstro) on what has been coined 'MIT NEET Ways of Thinking' and its integration and assessment within PBL, with a focus on systems thinking. Furthermore, the project explores the application of generative AI technologies to foster and assess higher-order thinking skills such as systems thinking.

The research collaboration includes a hybrid research sabbatical with data collection at both AAU and MIT in interdisciplinary settings in the years 2022-2025, addressing the following research questions:

• How can the System Architecture-Function-Outcome (SAFO) framework be used to foster and assess introductory systems thinking in 1st year STEM education?
• How can a systems thinking approach support interdisciplinary learning and collaboration in PBL?
• What are the potentials and pitfalls of integrating generative AI (such as chatGPT) as a tool to support formative assessment of students’ systems thinking in a PBL setting?
