Environmental Management Perspectives

A study of how environmental management systems travel to be appropriated in new contexts with an emphasis on the alignment processes of product lines and the quality of certification and accreditation procedures. The basic idea of this research is to carry out a complementary and comparative study of the implementation and practices of maintenance of the environmental management systems in the countries involved in the research. By following e.g. how the ISO 14000 series of environmental standards are taken up, interpreted and implemented in different countries, a much broader comparison of environmental legislation practices, of institutional conditions in handling waste and environmental problems, in enforcement practices, in business conditions, and in company leadership can be compared. The framework of the research network is implemented in two main research themes: - Enhancing Environmental Management through linkages. Studies of TNCs, subsidiaries and local suppliers - Do voluntary approaches matter? A Study of Transformation of Environmental Knowledge through The Appropriation of ISO 14000 Countries involved: South Africa, Thailand, Malaysia and Denmark.' A combination of institutional-, case- and survey studies are undertaken in comparable branches in the respective countries (automotive industry, textile industry, food and alimentary industry, electronics industry).
