Gender Equality as a Perspective on Welfare: The Limits of Political Ambiton?

The purpose of the project is to analyse the meanings of gender which lie 'behind' the equality policy of the Nordic welfare states and which are spoken out through this policy. We analyse the relationship between equality and difference as contrasting strategies of gender politics, and when possible compare them with European models. Is it possible to identify a specific Nordic profile in the coupling of the strategies? Focusing on the family, the project wants to complement contemporary and historical studies of the welfare state, traditionally giving priority to the labour market and social security.
