Heterotrophic growth of Galdieria sulphuraria on hydrolysed food waste and production of phycocyanin

Project Details

Description

The scientific purpose of the project is to investigate, develop and optimize a heterotrophic production of the photosynthetic pigment, phycocyanin in Galdieria sulphuraria based on waste products from food industries, including
•experimental characterization and evaluation of waste hydrolysates from food
industries as growth media G. sulphuraria
•characterization of growth and phycocyanin synthesis in G. sulphuraria
growing on waste hydrolysates from food industries
•optimization of the production of phycocyanin in G. sulphuraria waste
hydrolysates from food industries
A second purpose of the project is to promote collaborations between UCN and AAU within fields of biotechnology, microbiology and chemistry and design and develop experimental work that will strengthen research based teaching and education at UCN.
