Description

Abuses (physical, psychological, sexual and negligence) may have a dramatic impact on children?s psychological development. In addition to social services, school may reduce the negative impact of these abuses. Many studies have shown that good school integration has positive consequences on children?s long-term development (e.g. reduction of the risk of delinquency, improvement of professional and social integration). Therefore, it is important to support the integration of abused children into schools. The main goal of this research was to present and discuss the evaluation of an intervention program that seeks to improve the school integration of abused children. First, the principles of this intervention and its method of evaluation are described. Second, children?s anamneses are presented. Third, children?s longitudinal performances to different psychological and social scales over a period of three years are analyzed. Finally, risk factors (anamneses), compensation factors (psychological and social scales) and their relationships are discussed. Some of the results of this empirical research have been presented in the 71éme Congrès de l?Association Canadienne Française pour l?Avancement des Sciences (ACFAS), Rimouski, Canada (Doudin, Pons & Martin, 2003), in the 10th European Conference of the European Association for Research and Learning and Instruction (EARLI), Padova, Italy (Doudin & Pons, 2003), and published (Doudin, Pons, Pflug & Martin, 2004). This empirical research is still running. With Pierre-Andre Doudin (Universities of Geneva and Lausanne) and Daniel Martin (HEP Lausanne).
