This proposal deals with the participation of a number of Danish stakeholders to contribute to, and benefit from, a new task of the International Energy Agency. The task is Integrated Solutions for Daylight and Electric Lighting in Buildings: From Component to User-Centred System Efficiency. This task will bring together 30 to 40 international experts and companies, involved in daylighting and lighting controls in the OECD countries, and will produce significant strategic information which will be strategic for the development of companies involved in the lighting value chain.

This new task will focus on identifying strategies that combine daylighting and lighting control systems that lead to
•energy-efficient solutions
•improvement in lighting conditions for human beings and their well-being
•improved user interfaces
•efficient communication between different system components
•reliability of systems
•simplified maintenance operations

The objective of the IEA task is to create added value for lighting systems. The added value, on top of a very high energy efficient system, is taking advantage of the latest development in digital lighting, by using a new generation of sensors, working with IoT and connection to smartgrid infrastructure.

The work within this EUDP proposal consists of the main following activities:

•Gather the latest knowledge on human behaviour in buildings with respect to lighting, as well as possible impact of lighting on well-being, and provide appropriate models to be used by the Danish lighting control industry and public stakeholders (the Danish Energy Agency)

•Conduct a critical analysis of the various control systems being developed worldwide for electric lighting and daylighting (incl. shading systems for direct sunlight and glare, etc.), using various types of communication protocols. Identify best solutions based on expectations of lighting professionals, facility managers and users. Inform Danish stakeholders of results.

•Link with international standardization organizations to allow Danish stakeholders to follow ongoing work on standards (CEN and ISO). Participate in pre-standardization activities to address the issues at hand.

•Conduct a number of laboratory and field tests of lighting control systems developed by Danish manufacturers to evaluate the benefits concerning energy performance, as well as satisfaction of users, facility managers and clients. Improve strategies and interfaces.

•National and International networking through a number of events.

•Provide material for communication to support marketing initiatives by Danish stakeholders and contribute to understanding of public and private partners.
•Provide documentation for the Danish Energy Agency to show measures taken to meet the Energy Agreement from 2012.

The duration of the IEA task is planned to last from July 2017 to January 2021 (3,5 years), and will include 7 international meetings (2 per year) and 3 specific events which will be organized in Denmark to communicate results and facilitate exchanges between Danish stakeholders (i.e. manufacturers, professionals, clients, public entities) and the Danish Energy Agency.
