Currently, there are two crossings of the Limfjord in Aalborg for road freight transport, the city bridge and the highway tunnel. These crossings have reached their maximum capacity and a VVM for a third crossing has been initiated, and the Danish road Directorate is currently evaluating the benefits of constructing this third crossing. For the impact on freight transport, this analysis will build on travel time savings for freight transport crossing the Limfjord. This project therefore aims to create new knowledge about the implications of travel time unreliability and the traffic breakdowns in this key infrastructure on the daily operations of freight transport and the costs incurred due these issues.
