Life Cycle Assessment design concepts that support implementation of Circular Economy in the construction sector


Circular Economy (CE) is by design a restorative and regenerative industrial economy model. CE promotes resource efficiency by recycling to reduce waste and minimize negative environmental impacts. As the construction industry is responsible for approximately 35% of the world’s waste CE is central in the effort to improve the construction industries resource efficiency.

The overall objective of the PhD project is to generate research‐based knowledge and integrated design concepts that support the implementation of CE in the building sector to optimize the environmental performance of buildings and building materials. The vision is to develop simple dissemination approaches based on comprehensive data on environmental performance to support and facilitate a sustainable building design and decision-making process based on quantitative indicators however without introducing further and potentially excessive complexity to the process.
