Project Details

Description

If technological innovations are to play a more proactive role in striving for sustainable development, engineering education has to integrate new kinds of knowledge, competencies and skills. This has been recognised in current engineering education research as well as by accreditation boards for engineering education. This project investigates in which ways sustainable development can be integrated in engineering education by addressing the following research questions:

•How can sustainability be integrated in first year programmes to provide students a platform for continuous considerations throughout the study?

•How can the very broad field of SD be narrowed down to relevant sustainability content for specific disciplinary domains?

•How can engineering institutions support the integration of sustainability by pedagogical frameworks, curricula developments and staff training?

The project includes case studies at institutions integrating sustainability as well as comparative studies to investigate different integration strategies in different contexts.
