Project Details

Description

The aim of the MESH project is to demonstrate a power-to-X concept for biogas methanation and storage of surplus renewable electricity. The project includes three technical work packages (WP2-4). WP2 will develop a new type of cells with nickel-free electrodes (Danish side), and cells and stacks (Chinese side) with fast start-up/shut-down capability, and investigate their performance under high-pressure operation and the patented ACDC operation. The SOEC technology addressed in this project may bring the DynElectro technology to the market around 2030, with an annual production volume in the GW-scale and a corresponding turnover of 400 M€ creating at least 500 jobs in production. WP3 will develop and demonstrate a 1kW P2G system prototype with 1kW stack and microchannel methanation reactor (TRL 2->4). The technoeconomic analysis, energy integration, dynamic simulations and control strategies for P2G systems with MW-scale SOEC and biogas methanation will also be conducted. The obtained dynamic characteristics for the P2G systems will be used for the combined models in WP4. The P2G systems integrated with the electrical and gas grid will be modeled in WP4. Financially optimized operation strategies for the systems will be investigated. The model can be used by investors, market players and system operators for development of business cases addressing the green transition by sector coupling between the electrical- and gas- grids.
