Make learning Mathematics more inclusive, efficient, enjoyable and real: Erasmus+ KA220-HED - Cooperation partnerships in higher education

Project Details

Description

In a world of technological innovations and global challenges, the development of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) competencies becomes crucial. Recent studies show that STEM degree programs face high dropout rates, often attributed to insufficient mathematical preparation of incoming undergraduates and the way of teaching mathematics. These trends, the lack of knowledge of fundamentals and the high drop rates in mathematics, serve to highlight the urgent need for action in relation to STEM education. The project Pythagoras aims to examine the role of mathematics within STEM education and the possibilities for improvement. Three different but also related approaches are proposed: to help teachers and students to enhance digital skills and link the subject to real life problems related with sustainable development contexts; to make mathematics teaching and learning more interactive and effective by using gamification; and to support the fundamental knowledge by introducing an online and open access course in preCalculus available to any stakeholder.
