    Kinkband formation in wood is a strongly nonlinear instability process involving strain localization in the form of socalled kinkbands, which are also experienced in compression instability in fiber reinforced epoxy materials. Although this phenomenon is shown directly in the form of kinkbands that are similar to each other there is a major difference in the mechanisms leading to instabilities, since wood is a very porous material, while epoxys have greater density. In the project, which involves development of a FEM program, the special conditions for wood are taken into account. The study is published in International Journal of Solids and Structures 39 (2002) , pp. 3649-3673.
