Project Details

Description

The power industry is witnessing a significant growth of power electronic interfaced power sources (PEIPSs) in electrical grids. The ever-increasing power capacity and voltage level of PEIPSs brings new challenges to security and stability of power systems. To cope with the challenges, grid codes and standards have been continuously evolving with the penetration level of PEIPSs. Consequently, in order to check whether PEIPSs meet grid codes and standards, it is becoming an emerging need to develop a comprehensive grid emulation system. This PhD project aims to study the modeling and control of scalable versatile grid emulation system based on modular multilevel converter. Grid requirements and control functionalities of grid emulator will be examined. Dynamic analysis and control methods will be developed to meet the performance requirements.
