Project Details

Description

In contract for DTU Offshore we have three PhD students working on risk informed integrity management of offshore oil and gas production well systems.

A leading objective of this project is to identify how the transition phase from fossile fuels to renewables may be supported by extended utlization of already established offshore production facilities - in a safe manner for both personnel and the environment.

Yue Guan - is working on the probabilistic modeling of degradation phenomena, namely scale developments and corrosion.

Akinyemi Akinsanya - is working on risk informed strategies for inspection and maintenance of offshore well systems, and

Ali Kashif is working on the application of Value of Information analysis for the identification of how new knowledge which may lead to reductions of uncertainties provide costs reductions associated with service life costing (OPEX).

All three PhD student are expected to have defended their theses during 2022.

Layman's description

This project aims to model the knowledge we have, and collect in the future, about different degradation phenomena affecting the safety and life cycle costs of oil and gas production wells and apply this for the optimization of strategies on how to maintain the integrity of the wells - with adequate levels of safety for people and environment - cost efficiently.

Key findings

Indeed risk informed models and strategies can be established and verified through available information from observations and inspecitons - and greatly support extended utilization of available oil and gas reserves.
