Small-Signal Stability of MMC-HVDC Power Station

Project Details

Description

Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC)-High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission systems have been increasingly deployed in the past decade, thanks to their competitive advantages over conventional HVDC transmission systems. Dynamic interactions between the MMC-HVDC transmission systems and the weak ac power grids as well as large-scale renewable power plants are becoming more apparent. A number of incidents have recently been reported on the instability and resonance of MMC-HVDC power transmission systems. This project will develop modeling and analysis tools for the MMC-HVDC power station connecting to renewable power plants and weak ac grids.
