    Description

The PADDLE (Personal ADaptable Digital Library Environment). Project focuses on the design and development of facilities to support end user centred customisation and personalization in digital libraries. The personalization facilities being investigated as part of the project include personal information spaces in which a range of different types of information can exist and can be structured and prepared according to individual needs and preferences. Supporting the customisation and personalization of information resources located and managed by remote information systems is another important area being examined as part of the project. The overall goal for the project is to enhance the effectiveness of knowledge workers by enabling them to work more effectively, through support for customisation and personalization of the information resources they use. The project is being conducted jointly by researchers at Aalborg University Esbjerg, the FAW (Research Institute for Applied Knowledge Processing) at the University of Ulm in Ulm, Germany and the Know Center in Graz, Austria. The project receives funding from the "Verteilte Verarbeitung und Vermittlung Digitaler Dokumented" program of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). (David L. Hicks)
