Abstract

In this paper a method for automated planning of Fiber to the Home (FTTH) access networks is proposed. We introduced a systematic approach for planning access network infrastructure. The GIS data and a set of algorithms were employed to make the planning process more automatic. The method explains different steps of planning process. Considering different scenarios a number of plans can be generated by using the method. It was also possible to generate the plans in a very short time compare to the traditional planning. A case study is considered to illustrate the use and capabilities of the planning method. The method, however, does not fully automate the planning but make the planning process significantly fast. The results and discussion are presented and conclusion is given in the end.
