AAU Explains (it all?): Presenting a ‘to-the point’ video based knowledge-sharing platform to assist modern day teaching within higher education

Research output: Contribution to journalJournal articleResearchpeer-review

Abstract

AAU Explains is a knowledge-sharing project founded at the University of Aalborg, Denmark with an overall aim to draw attention to how we could develop and implement new video source offerings within higher education. AAU Explains proposes a video platform, which combines learning and technology in new ways of teaching within the humanities and social sciences, with the use of short, and what we like to call ‘to-the-point’ videos of a high-level production, whereby students are educated on central theoretical and methodological concepts within the humanities and social sciences. This paper focuses on the design of such short explanatory videos and how they provide clear and instant knowledge (both of which are a highly sought after commodity within todays society) on central concepts and literature on any subject relevant to a multitude of research areas. Thus, in the following paper we present the overall design of such videos as well as our general considerations in relation to the use of this type of video format within higher education, and in conclusion, we also draw on our tentative experiences and first reactions to the implementation of the AAU Explains video tool applied to education within the humanities.
