Abstract

This chapter gives a brief overview over the roles of abduction in a Peircean account for diagrammatical reasoning. Based on an outline of the Abduction-Deduction-Induction standard syntax of investigation, three different issues are addressed: (1) abduction in reasoning with pure, mathematical diagrams; (2) abduction in applied diagrams; and (3) abduction in implicit diagrams.
