Abstract

As a result of the rewritten Danish Day Care Act from 2018 children’s play and music-aesthetic activity regained attention in kindergarten. However, aesthetic as a concept seems vaguely understood in both policy documents, research and kindergarten practice and the complexity of the phenomenon are not fully unfold in the literature. Therefore, this review examines how aesthetics is defined in the literature concerning pedagogical practice in kindergarten and finally explore and discuss the potential value of the concept for early childhood pedagogy in a future perspective. It is concluded that aesthetics is prominent as play, art, and interplay.
