Abstract

Wind turbine manufacturers are pressured to build bigger, heavier, and more complex wind turbine generators (WTGs) forcing the industry to seek more agile and flexible methods for modelling, planning and execution operations across the pressured value chain, seen in the wind industry. This paper introduces Multi Resolution Discrete Event Simulation (DES) as a tool to manage the increasing complexity. The concept was demonstrated through a particular case at Vestas Wind System A/S (Vestas) and evaluated through empirical data and semi-structured interviews with experts. The potential and value showed Multi-Resolution DES to be relevant and of importance for future cases.
