Abstract
This text is intended for use as a textbook in Advanced Mechanics of Materials. The purpose is to give a clear understanding of the behaviour and theoretical analysis of the most commonly used structural element, a beam. The main body of the text deals with the beam theory due to Vlasov. St. Venant torsion theory is described as well . The treatment is frequently related to the elementary plane bending theory.
