Abstract

Reliability analyses are performed for three Japanese vertical wall breakwaters in this chapter. Only the geotechnical failure modes described in chapter 3 are investigated. For none of the breakwaters detailed data are available for the wave climate and for the soil conditions. Therefore representative values for those parameters are used and consequently the results should be considered as the result of a parameter study. The following three breakwaters are considered in sections 2, 3 and 4: Mutsu-Ogawara, Niigata East and Niigata West.
