    Abstract

BELIEFS SELF-ORGANIZING AND ADAPTING CHARACTERISTICS IN THE CONTEXT OF SPANISH AS FOREINGN LANGUAGE: AN ECOLOGICAL EXPLORATION
The dynamism of the beliefs that are produced and found in the context of foreign language learning can be examined from the perspective of the relationships between its components. These relationships manifest through the adaptation and reorganization of both internal and external resources to the student, which allow for a specific change and response that fit the particular characteristics of the system at a specific time. This paper describes a nine-month longitudinal study in which four university students were monitored aiming to gain a deeper understanding of the complex and dynamic nature of beliefs about learning Spanish as a foreign language. By eliciting conceptual
metaphors regarding the learning process as well as interviews with a group of Danish university students, we have been able to access results that allow us to conceive of beliefs as a network of co-adaptable, situational and self-organized representations, which are anchored and articulated in a particular context.
