    Abstract

The best practice stream of manufacturing strategy literature has emerged and grown significantly during the last decades. Still, the understanding of how context affects the adoption and usefulness of best practices is limited. This paper analyses the relationships between fourteen contingency factors and six best practices, the direct performance effects of four of these contingency factors, and the moderating effects of these four factors on the best practice-performance relationships.
