Abstract

Unlike for AC systems, the design of protection system for DC Microgrids is challenging work. In addition, due to the importance of cyber-attacks, proposing an invulnerable system against cyber-attacks is a vital task. The goals of the proposed techniques in this paper are detection the fault in the DC Microgrids and isolation of the fault to prevent propagation of damage to the other parts of the system. To achieve these goals, a blockchain-based differential protection technique is proposed in this chapter. The blockchain system encrypts the measured values and sends them to the differential relay for decoding and preventing the protection devices against communication failure or cyber-attack. The proposed differential technique distinguishes internal and external faults and detects and isolates the internal fault by considering high impedance faults (HIFs). The proposed technique is verified against different conditions and cyber-attacks, and the effectiveness of the proposed method is revealed.
