Abstract
Objective:To examine the impact of personality and coping on posttraumatic stress disorder among surviving adolescents approximately 6 months after the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake. Methods:A total of 168 students from the 5th to 8th grade, were investigated with three questionnaires including CRIES-13,EPQ-Junior and Middle School Students' Coping Measure. Results:Both neuroticism and emotion-oriented coping were significantly related to PTSD symptoms. The correlation coefficient were 0.399(P〈0.01) and 0.367(P〈0.01) respectively. Results showed that these two variables explained 20.1% of the variance in the CRIES-13 together. With regard to the whole sample,emotion-oriented coping partly mediated the effect of neuroticism on PTSD symptoms. Conclusion:The present study suggested that personality is significantly related to PTSD.Coping works as a mediator between the above two variables.
