Abstract

MUV focuses on improving livability and health conditions in cities through the involvement of local communities and stakeholders. MUV believes that (behavioral) change is more achievable by seeking direct dialogue with the local communities and stakeholders and involving them in co-creating and co-designing effective solutions to reduce pollution and improve the quality of life in their urban environments.
As the DoA states: The basic methodology in MUV is co-creation, which implies a “Building With, Not For” perspective. It involves the communities in the whole process of designing, testing, using and improving the system, thus enhancing its value. The co-creation path will follow several steps. The first step focuses on identifying key stakeholders and communities (e.g. citizens, consumers, policy makers, urban planners, mobility providers, local businesses). The second step is to involve them in the different pilots of MUV so they can take part in the co-creation processes.
In this report different elements of community engagement will be described. First, we will describe how communities can be defined within MUV, then we will discuss concepts of participation and engagement within MUV. Thirdly, we will dive into the different aspects in order to prepare a community engagement strategy: exploring your topic and scope, targeting and approaching your audience, framing of communication and selecting suitable community engagement methods.
