Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to investigate the implications of the Golden Age concept in relation to an unusually productive period in Danish television drama—1995-2015. This period facilitated a development from a domestically based production aiming at a Danish audience, to a transnationally oriented production, targeting international as well as Danish audiences. The explanatory power of the golden age concept is discussed by comparing it to the preceding period, and to former golden ages in a United Kingdom and United States context. In all cases, the impact of ‘important moments’ is highlighted. Jurij M. Lotman’s model of transnational cultural exchange is applied, supporting five distinct phases in the pattern of development. The limits, the travelling, and the heritage of the Danish golden age are scrutinized.
