Abstract
A simple way to ensure cost efficiency during code-making or the probabilistic design of individual structures is to make use of the tentative target reliabilities provided in the JCSS Probabilistic Model Code. An acceptable level of life safety is, however, not guaranteed when relying on the JCSS target reliabilities, which have been derived based on monetary optimization.
