Abstract
Direct measurements of the local intensity modulation properties of a distributed-feedback laser diode are presented. The modulation efficiency varies along the laser cavity and depends on frequency and the applied bias current. The experiment was performed on a conventional laser with small holes in the contact metallization, and the modulation was induced optically. A numerical analysis shows good agreement with the measured responses.
