N2 - This thesis presents a novel decision support tool, REDIS, which can be applied in the pre-design stage of sustainable building renovation projects. REDIS can support the professional building owner in choosing which buildings to renovate within a building portfolio, or which renovation activities to initiate across multiple buildings. The thesis presents a state-of-the-art overview of existing decision support tools for building renovation, the design, and development process of the REDIS tool, along with its demonstration and evaluation. The REDIS tool has been tested with potential users throughout the design process, and finally demonstrated through a proof-of-concept application example using data from a real case of choosing ten school buildings to renovate out of 56 schools, owned by a Danish municipality.
