Abstract

To achieve optimal battery energy storage operation and maximize its economic benefits, it is crucial to account for battery life-limiting aspects. One of the most important parameters to consider in such an analysis is battery performance degradation. To assess this parameter, it is necessary to model battery performance and wear-out aspects efficiently. A range of performance and offline lifetime models commonly used during design and planning are discussed in this chapter. Moreover, a novel approach to real-time battery degradation is discussed and demonstrated in the case study.
