    Abstract

This article examines the current Pope’s critique of the world system, which he describes as the globalization of exclusion and indifference. It is argued that this criticism is rooted in the prophetic tradition and the Catholic Social Teaching. At the same time, the article analyzes the theoretical elaboration developed by Pope Francis regarding the concept of utopia and its concrete proposal that he refers to as the globalization of inclusion and hope. Ideas and central concepts of great theorists of utopia as Ernst Bloch and Poul Ricoeur are used in order to understand and interpret the writings of one of the most important icons of the global society with a great social impact. The article also includes some central ideas of the Theory of Discourse of Laclau and Mouffe with the purpose of analyzing a keynote speech of the Pope in his encounter with the popular movements in Bolivia last year.
