Abstract

In the coming years local authorities will have to build and renovate numerous schools due to wear and growing numbers of pupils. Knowledge is therefore needed on how future schools should be designed and administered for energy efficiency and good indoor climate. With this report the first part of the research programme 'Programme for energy efficient schools' is finished. The purpose of this part of the programme was to record the energy consumption of a number of schools and assess the potential for saving energy for ventilation and lighting. The report describes a number of promising innovative ventilation solutions and surveys the daylight conditions in nine existing schools. Moreover, the scope for saving energy by improved daylight utilisation is assessed.
