Abstract

After a brief historical survey, I focus on the Danish debate during the War and then go into some early war movies and novels. I follow the important effects on various kinds of modernism and the avant-garde by the end of the War. Last but not least, I go into the profound and long-lasting traces of the War to be found in retrospective novels and autobiographical works. One main thesis is that, in addition to the direct experience of the War shared by a considerable number of young Danish men, the rapid and fundamental changes in the media, created or at least accelerated through the War, are especially important and visible as effects of the War on Danish literature.
