Abstract

Maternal risk factors dominate among younger women with multiple miscarriages. In all patients, genetic variants associated with low plasma mannose binding lectin or thrombophilia affect the prognosis negatively. In women with secondary recurrent miscarriage, the HLA-DRB1*03 allele or homozygocity for a HLA-G14 basepair insertion is more frequent than in controls. In patients with a first-born boy carrying HLA class II alleles restricting recognition of HY antigens, the live-birth rate is low. Women with these risk genes also have an increased risk of delivering children with a low birth weight.
