Abstract

In this paper, a high-performance phased array antenna design with Yagi-Uda antenna elements is proposed for 5G cellular communications. The design configuration contains eight antenna elements arranged on the top portion of smartphone mainboard with a thin Alron-350 substrate. The configuring of the antenna element is composed of a driven dipole radiator with multiple directors. The proposed array is working in the frequency range of 26 GHz- 30 GHz. By increasing the number of employed directors, the fundamental properties of the elements can be improved. Good beam-steering function, high radiation beams, and efficiencies are achieved for the proposed design. In addition, the antenna exhibits sufficient performances in the presence of the user-hand.
