Abstract
The intention of this paper is to inspire interior architects and designers to develop their tools and methods to create better results based on close cooperation with the users and inspiration from other professions. The paper describes the brand crisis of the interior architects profession, that are often criticized for not caring about the physical and psychological needs of the users or not involving them at all. The paper describes three projects made by an interior architect, MM, who have experimented with radical new methods to involve the users. The cases are analyzed to enlighten the differences in conventional interior design and the new methods used by MM, with emphasis on interrogative techniques (the Socratic angle). The paper calls for a new focus in the education and praxis of interior architects, and the author argues, that the described methodologies could also inspire other architectural professions to add more human values into their practice.
