Abstract
Using the metaphor of video game “hub worlds,” in the Introduction the editors outline the overall purpose, structure, and contents of the handbook. Just as hubs provide a convenient central location for players to gather, exchange ideas, or level up, this volume presents a starting point for the journey into video game music and sound. The chapters, organized by topic into nine major sections, reflect a wide range of disciplines and approaches to the study of game audio drawn from musicology, music theory, sound studies, music cognition, and related fields. Following an overview of each section of the book, brief summaries of each chapter are provided.
