Abstract

Internet of Things is changing our daily lives from individual homes to industries. Every day the IoT projects are built and have significant impacts on the world. Devices are increasingly interconnected in such a way that they can communicate with each other over the Internet and exchange data. However, it takes a long time and requires a lot of knowledge to develop these projects from scratch. Therefore, a variety of IoT platforms are nowadays available to accelerate and simplify the IoT projects’ development. These platforms are integrated physical/virtual entity system which provides built-in tools to make IoT easier. In this chapter, we will present an overview of IoT platforms at the level of gateway up to the cloud and then will show how a platform works by using the example of the VICINITY platform.
