    Abstract

    The formal educational system has become a focal point in social work dealing with inclusion of youth on the edge of society. However, many young people on the edge find it difficult to make sense of formal education, which to a great extend is detached from the rest of their lives. In this article, we focus on an alternative social arena working to improve the quality of life among youth on the edge. Based on a recent study, the article focuses on young people in community art projects, and it analyses how the projects make a difference for them. The article introduces six core elements present in young people’s accounts about how art can work across art forms and projects.
