    Abstract

This chapter presents a series of work life stories collected from seven men and two women. The narrators have two things in common: everyone has a permanent residence in North Jutland, and everyone has in one way or another contributed to the two largest and most spectacular tasks so far in the North Jutland offshore industry, namely the upgrades of the oil drilling rigs Maersk Guardian and Maersk Giant, which were drawn ashore to the port of Hirtshals respectively in the spring of 2011 and the summer of 2012. The nine stories form the basis for a more general discussion on the need for and experience of mobility and flexibility in the North Jutland labor market in light of the discussions on "peripheral Denmark" and the opportunities and challenges that globalization provides in the region.
