Abstract

A paradigm shift in the approaches to teaching and learning has been underway for
decades, moving towards a more learner-centered and participatory classroom, with the teachers
potentially acquiring new roles as learning experience designers and agents for change towards 21 st .
Century learning.
This shift is being advanced by the advent of new technologies that can facilitate learner;s self-
expression, collaboration and new ways of knowledge representation.
A gap between the potentials of these new approaches to learning - and the actual more
comprehensive implementation of it by teachers in the European classrooms - has, however, yet to
be fully overcome.
This paper presents preliminary experiences from a European Erasmus+ project tasked with
developing a digital resource for teacher competence development to answer the needs for 21st -
Century learning offered as a MOOC.
