Abstract
Mutuality is grounded in our relationships with others, but it begins with self-awareness. We need to be aware of any values we hold that prevent us from recognising and acknowledging other people's views. We also need to identify the source of those values, which may include information technology, social or organisational culture and even the Western scientific approach. This process is one of self-development and is, therefore, a personal learning journey for each individual. As tourism educators, we are in a position to facilitate this journey for our students - and for ourselves - by emphasising values that honour respect and tolerance.
