Abstract

The next generation of shop floor management (SFM) is a digital transition and thus data-driven decision-making. With the aim to improve the understanding of the managerial challenges for having data-driven decision-making at the SFM level, this paper addresses the managerial prerequisites for a digital transition. This research is rooted in a case study involving 14 international companies. The findings of this paper illustrate that the managerial prerequisites for a digital transition and thus data-driven decision-making is characterised by having a valid and strong data foundation, data accessibility, standardised procedures for decision-making and organisational support.
